Blue Origin’s Club for the Future Launches Digital Postcards into Space
Blue Origin's nonprofit Club for the Future (The Club) is introducing a new way for people to create and send earth-friendly postcards to space from their digital devices. The all-digital process provides a new way to connect space with Earth, aligning with The Club’s mission to inspire and mobilize future generations to pursue STEM careers for the benefit of Earth.
The new digital postcards option is available now, where users can create and send drawings or messages to space from any digital device, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones. The art is then uploaded on a hard drive and flown to space on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket. Once returned to Earth, each digital postcard will be stamped “Flown to Space,” and creators will receive an email with a link to instructions on how to access their postcards and view other entries.
"We’re excited to launch our new space art platform at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. It is designed to ignite a passion for STEM careers, sustainably increase access to space, and unleash the creativity of the global community for the benefit of Earth,” said Michael Edmonds, President, Club for the Future.
iPreparatory Academy students at the Club for the Future Miami-Dade Space Day were among the first to use the digital platform in classrooms. The Space Day event featured former NASA Astronaut Winston Scott, who attended Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Additionally, Carmen De Leon-Acosta, Production Senior Manager of Manufacturing, Operations, and Assembly at Blue Origin, shared her career pathway to inspire students to explore STEM careers.
"We are honored to be the first school district in the nation to partner with Club for the Future on the official launch of the digital postcard initiative,” said Dr. Aileen Vega, Executive Director of Science in the Division of Academics at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. "Miami-Dade Space Day is just one more opportunity to showcase why Miami-Dade County Public Schools is the best choice for education. Our innovative approach to STEAM and STEM programs, including a multitude of choice programs and challenging competitions, keep our students actively engage in science."
There is no limit to how much art each person can create and send to space. Design and send your own digital postcard.
Paper postcards are also being flown to space and remain an option, though the Club is encouraging this new digital program.
